Youth Worker (Retreat Centre)“in today’s hectic environment where people have no time to listen to God’s voice, Benedictine convents and monasteries become oases where women and men of all ages, backgrounds, cultures and religions can discover the beauty of silence and the harmony of God’s creation”.Pope FrancisWorking as part of the wider Hospitality team, the Youth Worker will be responsible for helping to define and run activities for young people at our client's retreat centre, making a key contribution to ensuring the success of this major expansion initiative in growing the monastic apostolate of hospitality there.The Youth Worker will work with the Marketing, Communications and Outreach Officer to reach out to a variety of youth communities and grow this fundamental strand of activity, ensuring that the needs and voice of young people are met and heard and their experience is positive and fulfilling.Youth Worker Responsibilities:• To lead on engagement with all levels of youth from school to university into early thirties, for the hospitality and retreat sector of the organisation.• To work alongside the Business Manager and Marketing Executive to identify and prioritise their target audiences in all activities and look at how best to reach those audiences.• To help develop a range of programmes for different age groups.• To work with the Abbey safeguarding team to ensure the highest standards of safeguarding across all activities.• To help develop and engage closely with the intern programme, being the primary pastoral point of contact.Youth Worker Requirements:• Demonstrable experience of working professionally with young people, ideally for a minimum of 2 years.• Experience of organising and delivering programmes of youth engagement.• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk.• First Aid qualified (desirable)• A minimum Level 3 Qualification in Youth Work related studies or recognised equivalent (desirable)About our client:They are situated in North Yorkshire and are home to the largest community of Benedictine monks in the UK.
