Research Officer - Pathways between LGBTQ migration, social isolation and mental distress (part-time) School of Applied Social Science Location: Brighton - Falmer Salary: £30,942 to £34,804 pro rata Closing Date: Friday 05 February 2021 Reference: HA4120-21-014 An opportunity for a part-time, fixed-term Research Officer to work on a UKRI funded research project: ‘Pathways between LGBTQ migration, social isolation and mental distress: The temporal-relational-spatial experiences of LGBTQ mental health service-users’ led by Zoë Boden-Stuart (UoB), Nick McGlynn (UoB) & Helen Jones (MindOut).This is an interdisciplinary (psychology/geography) pilot project looking at experiences of social isolation and inclusion amongst LGBTQ+ people who have moved to Brighton (i.e. queer migration) and who use mental health services.You will work alongside a team at the University assisting with reviewing relevant literature, collecting and analysing visual and interview data, and disseminating findings. You should have:Strong skills and experience in qualitative research methods and an interest in LGBTQ+ lives and/or mental health.A good (2:1 or 1st) degree in a relevant subject is essential and ideally applicants will have postgraduate research methods training and experience, in particular reviewing literature, conducting in-depth qualitative interviews, and experiential data analysis. Knowledge of Brighton is desirable as this project includes psycho-geographic methods exploring the local area.Experience conducting research with vulnerable populations and in complex ethical contexts, or using visual methods, will be advantageous. This is a fixed-term post of 20 days, which can be undertaken flexibly between February and August 2021. The start date would be as soon as mutually agreeable. The majority of this role will be undertaken remotely from home. If conditions allow, the Research Officer may be asked to conduct some face-to-face work (in COVID secure settings), however currently all tasks are being undertaken remotely.Informal enquires are very welcome to Zoë Boden-Stuart or Nick McGlynn.
