Wood Mackenzie is seeking a highly motivated demand analyst to join our Europe gas markets research team. Against the backdrop of net-zero emissions targets and the ongoing energy-transition, the role of gas in the energy mix is experiencing structural shifts. This role will focus on forecasting the demand for gas and competing fuels across European markets, leveraging Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary models and data. Collaboration will be required with Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables analysts to deliver a complete picture of how electricity market dynamics impact gas for our clients.You will be responsible for primary research and data gathering of demand drivers to support the running of proprietary models. Leveraging knowledge of European energy policy, you will deploy your analytical skills to understand the fundamental drivers of gas demand. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating market commentary to explain forecasts in a clear and compelling manner to our clients. You will interact with clients through webinars, conferences and one-to-one engagement to promote Wood Mackenzie’s expertise in energy analytics.You will work across our multi-disciplinary team of analysts, modellers and data scientists to construct demand forecasts consistent with Wood Mackenzie’s broader Commodity Analytics group. You will work closely with senior modellers to develop and enhance Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary demand modelling solutions. You are comfortable with abstract models of complex, real-world systems – you understand the strength and weaknesses of models and can spot opportunities to apply them. Working with both modellers and market analysts, you will be able to grasp complex issues quickly and communicate them in a simple and clear fashion to non-specialists.You will focus on identifying high quality data inputs, using analytical techniques to fill gaps where necessary, to be incorporated into Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary demand models, providing transparency to underlying assumptions and forecasts. These models underpin long-term demand forecasts to 2050 at a market and sector level. You will undertake interpretive analysis to assess energy demand trends, constructing written narratives to deliver results to internal and external stakeholders.In addition to responsibility for long-term fundamentals-based models, you will create a monthly European gas demand outlook at the market level, refreshing historic assumptions and taking consideration of other seasonal demand drivers
