DescriptionPrincipal Engineer – Naval Architecture (In-Service) Would you like to play a key role within the Submarines Enterprise and support the in-service engineering activities that enable safe, available and capable submarines to effectively support UK defence? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer – Naval Architecture (In-Service) at either of our sites in Filton/Portsmouth/Devonport/New Malden. As a Principal Engineer – Naval Architecture (In-Service), you will be working within the In-Service Engineering team, using your expertise to support submarine platforms and ensure availability through-life, providing advice to the MoD Customers, design change team and other Industry Partners. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to challenge your technical skills by contributing to one of the most complex and important engineering programmes in the world today. This role will give you access to future opportunities for progression either within the team or wider business. Please note occasional travel to other sites will be required. Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer – Naval Architecture (In-Service) will involve: Undertaking design and analysis tasks to support submarine improvements in-service Supporting the definition and development of user requirements, formulating the bid through to contract award, undertaking the work and acceptance phases Supporting structural and shock assessments Conducting assessments of buoyancy and stability characteristics to support management of stability for boats in water Making predictions of manoeuvring and control performance through mathematical, computational and physical modelling methods Supporting Trim and Inclining experiments on submarines and analysis of data Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer – Naval Architecture (In-Service): Essential: Degree or equivalent qualification in Naval Architecture/Marine Technology/Ship Science Knowledge and understanding of marine product design standards and processes Competency in the use of design and analytical tools such as Solid works or Paramarine Experience with lifecycle processes Desirable: Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration Ideally, an understanding of MOD/Royal Navy Submarine In-Service support policies, operation and organisation Knowledge of Stability analysis, using packages such as Aveva or FORAN Submarine design, Whole Boat knowledge and operations Understanding of Hydrodynamic analysis, including CFD tools such as FLUENT or STARCCM+ Demonstrable experience of model testing and trials What we're looking for in you: You will have excellent communication skills, able to engage with and manage a broad range of key external and internal stakeholders.
