This position might be the dream role for you An established and well-respected film industry title is recruiting a new member of the editorial team to help continue to evolve the print and online offerings.The role will primarily focus on online and social media, but there is scope for development.Please apply by following the steps outlined at the end of this job posting (emailing your application rather than using Quick Apply) Job Description Job title: Editorial Assistant (primarily online and social media) Reporting to: Editor, Zoe Mutter Position: Full-time, UK-based, remote working (or if the successful candidate is Birmingham-based then they could work in the office post-pandemic).Working hours: 9am – 5.30pm, but with some extended hours.May involve travel to events.Salary: £18,000- £20,000 Duties and Responsibilities The successful applicant will be joining at an exciting time for the magazine as the team explores new avenues in print, digital and social media.As editorial assistant, you will be responsible for sourcing and posting news on the website, generating new and original content ideas, sub-editing press releases for online use, and posting content from the print magazine on the site.You will also handle the majority of the magazine’s social networking presence (across our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts), posting about our own content, interacting with others and building up the magazine’s following.You will also play a key role in some exciting online projects we are planning to launch later in 2021.Knowledge of the film industry is preferable but not essential.A passion and enthusiasm for film and TV is a definite advantage.You will have the ability to adapt quickly to the subject matter when posting daily news on the site.Knowledge of content management systems, social media management and video content systems would be a strong advantage.A working knowledge of Photoshop would also be favourable, although not essential (for resizing images for the web).Once comfortable with the subject matter, you will be encouraged to utilise your writing skills and contribute to the printed magazine’s news pages by editing pieces from the site.As the role evolves there is also scope for carrying out online interviews with filmmakers and writing these up for the website.You would also be responsible for curating news posted on the site for monthly news bulletins and working with the team members responsible for creating and sending those.When the publication is working towards print deadlines, you might be called on to assist the editorial team.The ideal candidate Educated to degree level or above in Journalism, Media studies, English or Marketing, the successful candidate will be hard working, self-motivated and willing to work flexibly to maintain the high standards established at the title.The ideal candidate should be dedicated to a career in journalism, organised, punctual, enthusiastic about the subject matter, and excited at the prospect of helping evolve the magazine and website.Applicants should be confident to work independently, suggest innovative ideas, and have a strong desire to work in and learn about the fast-paced and fascinating film industry.This role would suit a young professional with a background in creating engaging content.Ideally, you will have been working in a professional environment- internships or employment- but we will also consider applications from those who have recently graduated.The closing date for this position is 20 February 2021.Due to the high number of applications we expect to receive for the position, only applicants we want to take through to the next stage will be contacted.How to apply Please send a covering letter explaining what you could bring to this role and why your experience is relevant, along with a CV and any examples of published work to: zoebritishcinematographer.co.uk.Please include the subject line ‘Editorial assistant’ in your application.
