East Ayrshire Services – Dementia Link WorkerSalary: £26787.39 - £29654.54 (pro rata)Contract: 17.5 hours per week Fixed term contract to be reviewed 31 March 2022Make a real difference: help us to make sure no one goes through dementia alone.An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within Alzheimer Scotland as a Dementia Link Worker in East Ayrshire.The role of the Dementia Link Worker is key to our local services and Link Workers are often the first person families have contact with following a diagnosis of dementia.The Scottish Government has guaranteed a minimum 1-year post-diagnostic support for everyone diagnosed with dementia.Alzheimer Scotland has been at the forefront of promoting post-diagnostic support for people with dementia in a campaign spanning several years.All our post-diagnostic activity is centred on our 5 Pillars Model and this support equips people with tools, connections, resources and plans to live as well as possible with dementia and prepare for the future.Our model contributes to positive outcomes for people after their diagnosis including reduced isolation, reduced stress, reduced depression among carers, increased understanding of dementia and knowledge of managing symptoms, increased awareness of sources of support, increased social interaction, increased control of support, improved quality of life, and delayed admission to residential care.Supporting the East Ayrshire locality, this post will be based within the Older Adults Community Mental Health Team with access to the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Resource Centre in Kilmarnock.The Dementia Link Workers are required to be effective team workers and have the skills to maintain relationships with colleagues both within Alzheimer Scotland and the NHS Community Mental Health Teams.Travel across the East Ayrshire locality will be required.This is an exciting role and requires a degree of flexibility and an ability to work on own initiative.Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia with a caring attitude.You will also have excellent communication skills and the ability to plan and organise.Often visiting people in their own homes, Dementia Link Workers are in a unique position to offer a very person-centred level of support.A willingness to learn and participate in training is essential.Experience of working with people living with dementia and/or their carers is essential.For a job description, person specification and to apply please visit our website by clicking "apply" now!The successful candidate for this post will be subject to a PVG criminal record check through Disclosure Scotland.Closing date – Sunday 21 February 2021Interviews – Friday 5 March 2021Recruiting Manager: Lesley Millar
