About the RoleWe have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our evening shift team based in Christchurch.Working in our well-equipped workshop, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of a range of vehicles and associated equipment. Your key responsibilities will include:Carrying out scheduled preventative maintenance services.Maintain all aspects of a vehicle to relevant transport legislation and standards. Including lubrication, greasing and oil changes, dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts.Test drive and/or operate equipment to ensure repair has been completed correctly.Fault diagnostics to detect mechanical and electrical faults, using instruments that check charging and starting circuitry, batteries, ignition and ignition timing, fuel injection systems and speed control, cylinder compression, engine condition, braking efficiency, and wheel balance and alignment.Ensure all hand tools and equipment are safe to use and stored correctly and in a clean condition.Preparing all driver daily vehicle reports.To be successful in this role: A technical aptitude and strong problem-solving skillsHigh attention to detail, strong verbal communication skills and good understanding of operating proceduresNational Certificate in Automotive Engineering – Level 4 (NZ) (or equivalent)Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a teamA valid NZ Class 2 Licence (as a minimum)Auto electrical experience would be beneficial. More important is a good track record, a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn both the mechanical and electrical aspects of our modern truck fleet.
