McLaughlin & Harvey are one of the leading Building and Civil Engineering Contractors operating throughout the UK and Ireland.We are seeking to recruit an experienced Design Coordinator to join the team.ResponsibilitiesIn the role of Design Coordinator you will be an integral part of the Design Management Function, reporting to the Head of Design Management with a primary focus on Design Management Activities and supporting our Design Management Team.The role will enable you to expand on your existing design experience and core skills associated with managing Design Deliverables and Change Control Schedules and allow you to develop additional responsibilities including preparation of Design Responsibility Matrices, appraisals of individual consultant Scope of Services, Design Risk and Mitigation together with participating in and chairing Design Coordination Meetings, Workshops and Reporting. Liaise with Design consultants both in-house and external, statutory bodies, subcontractors, client team and our own project staff.Production and management of design and information schedules including fortnightly update of Projects Design Deliverables Schedule and Change Control Register.Responsibility for managing fortnightly updates and tracking progress of design coordination and project documentation, with assistance of the Design Mangers in the team.Carry out design content checks and buildability reviews, including option analyses and the championing of Value Management and Value Engineering.Supporting Design Managers in chairing of Design meetings.Coordination of Subcontract designs in terms of scope de-gapping and risk mitigation.Support and liaise with other staff in the procurement of subcontractors and materials to ensure best value.Production of design information packs and deliverables for Construction Teams providing buildable solutions.Planning application coordination, including liaison with environmental agencies, Disability and Discrimination Act, public health etc.Coordination and effective management of outline and full planning conditions in conjunction with lead Architect and/or Planning Consultant as appropriate.Administration duties in connection with Design Coordination role including drawing reviews.Undertake Quality Inspections during construction of individual work packages, including review, preparation and content of site quality plan file / ITPs, and reporting on site quality issues.Ability to manage designs from conception to completion including input to Health & Safety files, Operation and Maintenance Manuals and CIBSE log book etc.QualificationsRecognised Design or Construction related qualification and/or a proven track record of working as a Design Coordinator within the construction industry.ExperienceAbility to work to meet project time and cost constraints.In-depth knowledge of design process and detailed construction design at both preconstruction and construction phases of projects.Must be able to demonstrate ability as a design coordinator working within the construction industry.Good understanding of standard document control processes, being able to manage change control processes, establish design responsibilities with design consultants, and programme design to suit main construction programme and activities.Ability to work to meet project time and cost constraints.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Experience in the use of extranet based document management systems.Good commercial and technical awareness.Additional InformationThis position will be based upon training and development towards the role of Design Manager, and therefore is also open to Architects, Engineers and Graduates who are interested in a career path in Design Management.The role will be site based in Edinburgh initially, however the successful candidate will be required to travel for future projects etc.We are an equal opportunities employer.
