Programme Director - WI Architecture

Fidelity is investing in its Enterprise Architecture team with the purpose to serve the needs of Fidelity by enabling the Business, Technology and Data strategies to flourish to realise the targeted business opportunities and value.Enterprise Architecture operates across the business and domain portfolios.Overall, the functions aim is to:Unite Business, Technology and Data strategies in business & technology roadmapProvide strategic thought-leadership for FidelityAlign innovation with strategy and business needCommission key strategy change and drive adoption.Ensure efficient use of change investment leading to maximum business value returnOperate across technical, organisation and process challenges to drive design of enterprise solutions.Instigate and direct Delivery’s regulatory and compliance engagement, verifying success through governance checksEducate technology and business on solutions and technologies that are relevant for the strategiesPurpose of your roleWPFH (Workplace and Personal Financial Health) is one of the two main business pillars within Fidelity, incorporating our Personal Investing, Workplace Investing, Brokerage and Stockplan Services businesses. WPFH is going through a phase of rapid and substantial transformation of its business model as well as the Technology estate.You will lead the Enterprise Architecture function for WPFH, and in that role provide the senior leadership to both the Business and Technology stakeholders in order to direct the investment and transformation from an architecture perspective to help deliver the strategic WPFH initiatives in line with the Technology and Data strategies. This includes (for example) setting up your own organisation, providing guidance on M&A activity, work with Technology Delivery on their roadmaps, set up relevant governance, liaise with senior business stakeholders. Your primary focus will be on the Workplace Investing portfolio, which is a portfolio receiving a high level investment and has embarked on a multi-year transformation programme together with our sister-company FMR (US based).In addition, you will be part of the Enterprise Architecture senior management team that has the shared responsibility to ensure Fidelity’s best interests are protected and we standardise where possible across the two business pillars as well as the ‘Corporate Enablers’ departments.To give a sense of scale, Fidelity spends ~ $500m on Technology per year and about 30% of that is allocated to the WPFH business. The Enterprise Architecture team, and this role specifically for WPFH, provides direction and acts as guardian for this investment.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategizeDevelop and maintain WPFH architecture and associated technology roadmaps and contribute to and ensure alignment with the Global strategic architecture technology vision and direction.Maintain a forward-looking perspective on emerging technology developments and their relevance to Business and Technology Strategies.Monitor technology developments to ensure that the organisation is effectively positioned to respond to and leverage opportunities that enhance competitive position through the effective application of technology to the business.Work closely with counterparts in FMR for opportunities of re-use and collaboration with the WI portfolio.Architecture’s success will depend on close collaboration with many other teams in Fidelity, including Engineering, Data, Delivery, Change, Security.Lead & CommunicateLead, motivate, develop and appraise team members so that their individual and collective performance is of the required standard and meets the current and future needs of the business.Be the principal advisor to the business and technology leads on WPFH architecture and strategy.Act as a senior leader within the Technology department (3000+ members).Proactively communicate decisions, roadmap, insight to the technology and business colleagues.Lead various governance forums.Participate in the development of new concepts to support business strategy and provide recommendations to leverage technology for competitive advantage, internal efficiency and improved service.Participate from time to time in managing vendor relationships on new and existing products, evaluating usefulness and cost of products and making appropriate recommendations.ArchitectIdentify the current state of how technology is used in the organisation, what technologies are being used and how they are deployed along with the business value the technology is providing.Propose and agree target application architecture for WPFH that includes the articulation of a clear roadmap. Manage key business stakeholders to achieve consensus agreement to vision and roadmap.Ensure that technology solutions to business problems are both pragmatic and supportive of the Global strategic architecture direction.Create technology solutions to WPFH problems that are pragmatic and supportive of the Global strategic architecture direction.Lead the development of architectures that are aligned to business goals, drivers, and strategies; drawing on knowledge of current and possible future business trends, policies and practices and business competition landscape.DeliverDesign and develop architectural solutions for programmesTranslate high level business architecture into technology architectures that align to global strategies, simplify the existing architecture, deliver cost saving opportunities and, where appropriate, reusable services.Experience and Qualifications RequiredSkilled in the architecture, design and implementation of complex technology solutionsExtensive experience in the retail investing / workplace investment businessExperience with and strong in working with C-suite leadershipStrong communication skills with different types and levels of stakeholders both internal and external.Effective leadership skills including negotiation, conflict resolution, influencing, bridge-building and political astutenessHands-on experience managing end-to-end systems development from customer specifications through to deploymentExperience of managing technology driven business process changeThe ability to convey complex, abstract technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiencesA good understanding of financial markets, products and organisationsExcellent and resourceful problem-solving skills, adaptable with a willingness to learnProactive and self-organising with a “can-do” approachAbout you About Fidelity International Fidelity International offers investment solutions and services and retirement expertise to more than 2.5 million customers globally.
