Principal Mechanical Engineer (Building Services)

A very unique and sought-after opportunity for a Chartered Mechanical Engineer within the NHS, Wales. Your new role This is an exciting client side opportunity for a Chartered Mechanical Engineer. The NHS is looking for a Chartered Principal Mechanical Engineer to oversee and advise on mechanical works taking place across 7 Health Boards and 3 Trusts within Wales. The core purpose of the role is to act as the resident engineering expert, assessing the quality of works, advising and participating in UK wide engineering initiatives and allocating/overseeing vital works across a team of likeminded, specialist engineers.You will be working for and on behalf of the NHS; with its various buildings, hospitals and offices. With that, your responsibility will be to ensure the mechanical works taking place within them are both technically, accurately and financially sound. As the resident expert and sounding board for the Trusts and Health Boards, you will be providing advice and guidance on all aspects of Building Services. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, your knowledge and experience will help guide the work of 7 engineers, the vast majority of which are Chartered, across a mutually shared portfolio of clients.What you'll need to succeed You would be an Engineering expert with a Building Services background. Chartered, with a wealth of experience gained working at senior level, overseeing and consulting on Mechanical projects. You'll be confident in your art, able to advice, guide and consult at all levels, including other engineers (internal and external), Heads of Estates and various stakeholders both within and outside of the NHS. You'll have a high level of experience working with HVAC, Decontamination and ideally water, although training is provided and budget permits continuous personal development enabling you to specialise and further your knowledge. Experience working on healthcare/NHS projects is highly advantageous, but a candidate with strong engineering experience gained within another sector would also be considered. You'll need strong project planning and management skills, with the ability to co-ordinate the activity of a team and present confidentially on technical issues and recommendations.What you'll get in return Working for the NHS carries merit and status, knowing the work you're doing is ultimately contributing to saving the lives of people across Wales and beyond.
