Principal Engineer - Electrical Engineering

DescriptionSenior Engineer – Electrical Would you like to have an exciting career supporting the development and installation of submarine complex systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Electrical Engineer at our site in Frimley. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be working within our Platform Physical Design and Installation Services team, who support tasks covering in-build and in-service submarine fleet. You will be involved with a range of full life cycle design activities, to specific support activities and appraisal of Combat System and sub-system designs to ensure that they can be built and installed correctly. The major aspects of this role firstly are providing key support to the Combat System Sub-System teams in primarily appraising their designs and providing recommendations where applicable. This will take the form of checking systems diagrams/electrical schematics, wiring schedules, cable datasheets, qualification test plans and installation test plans. This role will provide you with the opportunity to work closely with the Royal Navy and have full exposure of the latest technology in sonar equipment, external communications equipment, signature management systems and all sub system equipment covering both in-build and in-service submarines. Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer - Electrical will involve: Reviewing and supporting design documentation involved in the installation of equipment across the platforms Providing feedback on quality of documentation from the installation team Supporting the review of electrical/electronic designs and ensuring they are safe and fit for purpose Managing the documentation deliverables e.g. class MoD leaflets and Engineering Change Requests Carrying out power calculations and reviewing power distribution designs Ensuring the manufacturing data pack information is fit for purpose to ensure external third parties can install equipment safely Supporting design review tasks, including Engineering Change Requests and providing impact assessments to support these requests Your skills and qualifications: Essential: HNC/HND/Degree, or equivalent qualifications or experience Electrical design experience or a senior royal navy maintainer with experience of installation fits, or closely related background Previous electrical installation experience Experience of integration, testing and commissioning of Naval equipment Desirable: Background and experience of working within the maritime industry Knowledge and understanding of DEF STAN 59411 and 61-5 Knowledge and understanding of electrical safety standards i.e. BS 62368 What we're looking for in you: You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and be able to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
