Job Duties: Using a variety of tools to modify pipes to specifications. Installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment. Measuring and marking pipes for cutting and threading. Assembles and installs variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic. Securing pipes to walls and fixtures with brackets, clamps, and welding equipment. Ordering required materials such as pipes, hangars, brackets, hydraulic cylinders, etc. Repairing and maintaining pipe systems, supports, and related equipment. Clearing pipe systems of obstructions and testing their functionality. Increases pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks. May weld pipe supports to structural steel members. May observe production machines in assigned area of manufacturing facility to detect machinery malfunctions. May be designated Steam Fitter when installing piping systems that must withstand high pressure. Qualifications / Experience: Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems, applying knowledge of system operation, and following blueprints: Selects type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.High school diploma/GED.Trade school education or apprenticeship.Meet state license requirements.Proven experience as a Pipe Fitter.Excellent mechanical and troubleshooting skills.Ability to prioritize and maintain strong attention to detail.Good communication and managerial skills.Physical dexterity.10+ years of work experience in pipe fitting and fabricating.
