With sites in Belfast, Crossgar and Thorney Island the company specialises in lightweight missiles and the integration of weapon systems into tactical platforms such as land vehicles, helicopters and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).An opportunity has arisen for a yearlong internship within our Mechanical Engineering group, working on the design and development of innovative technical solutions that meet customer requirements and business needs.The successful candidate will work as part of the Mechanical Engineering team on one of Thales Belfast’s multi-discipline programmes, gaining valuable experience within the discipline. Under the guidance of the Mechanical work package manager, the successful candidate will carry out the various Mechanical design/ development/ support tasks appropriate to the lifecycle phase of the product.Key Responsibilities:Creation of innovative design concepts for missile sub-systems and vehicle integration solutions using Catia V5.Generation of detailed drawings for the manufacture of high precision machined components.Generation of assembly drawings of electro/optical/mechanical systems and sub-systems.Interaction with stress, aerodynamics, manufacturing, procurement and supply base to ensure optimised, robust, cost effective designs.Participate in and contribute to company continuous improvement projects when required.Your skills and experienceCurrently undertaking a BSc/BEng (Hons) degree in mechanical engineeringAbility to communicate effectivelySelf motivated, innovative and willing to exercise initiativeAble to overcome barriers and make things happenTeam member working to team goalsIn line with Thales' Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and/or education history for up to three years.
