Language Teaching Officer (ADTIS) (Part Time)

The Academic Development & Training for International Students (ADTIS) section of the University of Cambridge Language Centre has five main areas of operation:1) Admissions academic literacy assessments;2) Pre-Sessional Academic Skills Training Programme for Incoming International Postgraduates;3) In-Sessional Support Programme;4) Bespoke Provision for Departments and Colleges; and5) Online Learning Objects. Whilst the current team each have their own specialisms in certain areas, all teaching members are expected to actively engage in all areas of ADTIS provision. Given the fact that Cambridge has one of the highest English language entrance requirements for postgraduate entry not only in the UK, but in the English-speaking higher education sector, the problems students whose first language is not English may face are unlikely to be exclusively linguistic, but be far more rooted in a lack of awareness of the expectations of written academic English within their discipline. What ADTIS offers is therefore far more than simply language support. In terms of who we support, our key group are postgraduates, seeing that international students comprise ca. 70% of the postgraduate body. We do also, however, support, undergraduates, post-docs, visiting students, ERASMUS students, students on medical electives as well as University staff and academics. Applicants should be educated to at least first-degree level (in any discipline) and have experience of the following: teaching academic English at university level, developing multimedia teaching and learning materials, technology enhanced language teaching, curriculum development, and designing assessment tools and procedures. A postgraduate qualification is desirable. Please note that this post is part time (0.5fte), with some flexibility for working hours, but you must be available to work full time during the University's Pre-Sessional Programme, which runs from early August to mid-September each year.
