Engineering Manager

Harbro Ltd provides innovative high-quality livestock solutions, focused on improving animal performance and its customers’ profitability. Privately-owned, the business trades throughout the UK and has developed an increasingly strong export market through its international division. With a manufacturing capacity of 270,000 tonnes from sites based in Scotland, the business produces high-quality livestock feeds for beef, sheep, dairy, pig and poultry. We are looking to expand our Birkhill maintenance team and appoint an experienced Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall site maintenance function, leading the Birkhill maintenance team in providing a hands-on, reactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities. To include being responsible for planning, scheduling, co-ordination of engineering projects and overseeing the timely completion of work carried out. About You The successful candidate should be educated in mechanical or electrical engineering to a higher or degree level or equivalent and have exceptional foresight, great communication, excellent planning & organisational skills. Candidates should have proven managerial experience and knowledge of manufacturing engineering and engineering technology and must be competent to provide engineering maintenance leadership and support the Birkhill team to ensure an efficient and effective service is provided on-site. Key Accountabilities Lead team development and performance management Development of an effective Planned Preventative Maintenance programme Increase the site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery, reduce downtime and manage improvement plans whilst driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) Ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to Compliance with legislation and regulations pertaining to repair and maintenance e.g. building structure, steam, electric, sewage, water Lead and develop Engineering Projects for the site and the wider Harbro Group Support, encourage and develop the team, taking ownership for team cohesion and proactively contribute to creating a good team atmosphere Requirement for hands-on analysis and problem solving Essential Skills and Experience Higher education in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent Knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Technology Proven track record of Maintenance Management, having held this position of Maintenance Manager previously within a manufacturing environment Competent to provide engineering maintenance leadership and support the site maintenance team Good knowledge of statutory compliance obligations and Approved Codes of Practice for and not limited to AtEx & DSEAR, PSSR, PUWER and LOLER Excellent planning and organisation skills Flexibility to respond to a variety of work situations Ability to effectively manage the tasks of the Maintenance team and ensure an efficient and effective service is provided to the site Being self-motivated and focused, have excellent communications and problem solving skills A positive, ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to work effectively under pressure Competent in the use of email, computerised systems and administration requirements of a busy department Desired Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree in the engineering field Experience within a manufacturing environment within bulk manufacturing i.e. elevators, conveyors, electrical motors Steam Systems and boiler experience (BOMSA) Project management qualifications History of improving team performance Benefits Competitive salary Continuous support and development The successful candidate will stand out from the crowd, will be professional, versatile, personable, and very focused on development and performance management.
